Taking a Class at The Actors’ Gang

Our adult classes are a way for us to introduce our signature way of working to others.  Based in the belief that important stories have important states of emotion, we work toward creating pure moments of truth on stage, using ensemble movement, generosity, trust, and emotional honesty. In the course of the eight-week class, the students are introduced to stock characters from the Commedia dell’Arte. Developed over the last 37 years by founding Artistic Director, Tim Robbins, and Co-Artistic Director, Cynthia Ettinger, with roots in the Théâtre du Soleil, Grotowski, Viewpoints, punk rock and popular culture, our signature technique is used in all of our productions and outreach programs.

  • When does the class meet and how often?

The evening class meets on Mondays, 6:00 – 11:00 pm for 8 weeks.

  • How much does the class cost?

$500 for an 8-week session. Payment plans are available by request.

  • How do I become a company member?

The classes are a way for us to introduce our signature way of working to others. Through the classes, we choose associate company members to join the company. By having taken the classes, the associates easily transition into the company workshop with a strong knowledge of our technique.

  • Can I audit a class?

We do not open all of our classes to the public to audit.  However, the final classes of every Monday and Thursday 8-week session are open to the public to come and observe. Please email training@theactorsgang.com for the next Final Presentation.

  • Where can I find more information about The Actors‘ Gang’s signature technique?

We recommend attending our shows and watching the following video.
