Taking a Class at The Actors’ Gang

The Style is a unique form of acting developed at the Actors’ Gang over its many years of history. It includes elements of Commedia dell’Arte, mask work, viewpoints, and focuses on developing emotional states. We work always in one of four states of emotion: Happy, Afraid, Sad, or Angry. Every show at the Actors’ Gang utilizes the Style in varying degrees of subtlety.

The best way to get involved in our training program is by attending our shows and seeing how we work.  You will see The Style in action and see if it is a technique and environment that is right for you.

  • When does the class meet and how often?

The class meets on Tuesdays at 6:00pm for 8 weeks.

  • How much does the class cost?

    $500 (for 8 weeks).

  • How do I become a company member?

The Actors’ Gang is an ensemble based theater company that trains once a week together in The Style. The classes are a way for us to introduce The Style to actors interested in the company.  Through the classes, we choose associate company members to join the company.  By having taken the classes, these associates easily transition into the company workshop with a strong knowledge of The Style.

  • Can I audit a class?

We do not open all of our classes to the public to audit.  However, the final class of every Monday night 8-week session is open to the public to come and observe.  The next open class will be on November 1, 2016 at 7pm.

  • Where can I find more information about the Style?

We recommend attending our shows and watching the following video.

Auditions

AUDITIONS for classes will be on Monday, January 9 at 7pm. All actors must RSVP by emailing training@theactorsgang.com to reserve a spot to audition no later than January 6, 12pm.

Next 8 week session will meet Mondays only, from January 23-March 13.

Final Presentation on March 13 at 7pm, open to the public.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend.  People will be seen in a group and the audition will consist of movement exercises and group work.  Therefore, you do not need to prepare a monologue or any material but you do need to be prepared to play and stay the evening.  This is not a traditional audition so have fun!  Please come in clothes and shoes you can move in.

The audition will be held at the theater.  The address is 9070 Venice Blvd. Culver City, CA 90232.  If you are searching for it using a smart phone, search for Media Park.  We are the only building in Media Park.

You can park in the Trader Joes parking structure across from us on Culver Blvd (the first two hours are free) or you can park on Venice Blvd. (2 hour street parking).

You must bring a hard copy of your picture and resume to the auditions.

The class is a way for us to introduce The Style in which we work to others.  It grew out of Commedia dell’Arte and we work always in one of four states of emotion: Happy, Afraid, Sad, or Angry.  The class meets Tuesdays and is $500 for 8 weeks.  Payment plans are available by request. Through the classes (we offer a Tuesday class by audition and a Monday class by invitation) we find new company members. By being a company member you are able to be considered for shows and you are able to take part in our education and outreach programs, like the Prison Project.
