Bobbo Supreme Radio Play

Written and Directed by Tim Robbins

We’re proud to present Tim Robbins’ BOBBO SUPREME Radio Play, a satire that follows in the tradition of Robbins’ 1992 film, Bob Roberts, and his 2004 production of Embedded.

President Bobbo Supreme is an infantile, narcissistic lounge singer, game show hosting, narcoleptic racist; an unhinged id running for reelection and unwilling to cede power if he loses. The billionaire recording artist and leader of the free world is in the final push of his re-election campaign. Tortured by periodic dreams that range from glorious fantasies of his prowess as an athlete to nightmares of utter failure, President Supreme struggles to maintain a grip on reality. As the Election Day gets closer, chaos erupts throughout the country as right wing militias, aligned with the White House, clash with protestors. This satire is fast, funny, irreverent, and made for this moment in American history.

Robbins originally wrote the project for the screen; however, when the pandemic hit, he reached for different creative mediums in order to find a way to get the story out without sacrificing the entertainment value. “This pandemic has revealed the need for a new form of aural entertainment, a film for the ears and the listeners imagination,” says Tim Robbins. “We are looking to explore a way that we can tap into the tradition of the Mercury Theater, and its groundbreaking work in the late 1930s, and the raw and scatacological absurdity of Alfred Jarry’s Ubu Roi, to present a story that resonates deeply with today and immerses our audience in an unsettling humor and familiar truth.”

Over the course of only a few days, the cast and crew came together from over 35 different locations into one virtual recording studio. The project went through prep, recording, and post production entirely remotely. Robbins and team couldn’t be more excited to drop it on the ears of all those who need to take a break from the doomscroll, and find laughteramid the chaos.

Recorded completely remotely, Bobbo Supreme includes original music and sound design by David Robbins, and songs, including Bobbo is Strength in 1984, The Beauty of the Dollar and Manifest Destiny, written and performed by Tim Robbins and David Robbins.

The production is dedicated to Hal Willner (1956-2020)
